"In Baku, at Khagani, at the Russian Drama Theater..." That’s how starts a poem of a former Baku resident Alexander Agranovsky currently living in Israel, who devoted it to an actress, friend, good person, and an idol of Bakunians of the 60-70's, Dina Tumarkina.

The Russian Drama Theater hosted an event dedicated to the People's Artist of Azerbaijan SSR, laureate of the State Prize of Azerbaijan SSR, Dina Iosifovna Tumarkina. The guests celebrated the 85th anniversary of the legendary actress. The organizers were the association of Israeli-Azerbaijani friendship "AzIz" and the Russian Drama Theater. They were happy to see that the event was held with a full house.

Although the actress left for Israel in 1990, she never forgot Baku, where she was happy. She did not forget the people of Baku, to whom she is still bound with warm friendly relations. Numerous evenings of poetry, literature, theatrical gatherings held by "Aziz members" in Jerusalem, do not do without her participation, the performance of poems and prose of the Azerbaijani authors of the past and the present.

A state of mind

The love of Azerbaijani culture is a constant state of the actress's soul. Therefore, at the recent event, she was talking about today's life of Azerbaijan by always repeating the pronoun "we", the words "in our city", "in our country". This caused a lively response in the hall and applause. So it turns out that a popular phrase "there are no former Bakunians" is an absolute truth. Having lived almost 30 years in another country, her soul is bound to Baku. What does it mean? Love only partly belongs to the streets, houses, architecture. But if all this beauty is not animated by people, their way of life, their style of communication with each other, moral and ethical values, then it is not worth loving. People are the main value, the bearers of positive emotions, personal relationships. They create friendly relations between each other and states that help to preserve peace. And the importance of such meetings becomes obvious. Tumankina spoke about this, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to visit her beloved land, the stage, to meet with colleagues, friends and fans of her creativity: the First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, a member of the Milli Majlis Fuad Muradov, the Israeli-Azerbaijani Friendship Association "AzIz", to her native Russian Drama theater and its leadership represented by director Adalet Hajiyev.

"I'm happy to be here today: in this city, on this stage, among colleagues, friends, acquaintances, my dear spectators are with you. Raised by Azerbaijan, past formation in our wonderful Baku and received recognition here, I cannot help but be happy," said Tumankina.

Her colleagues on the stage recited Tumankina the verses from a fellow actress Alexandra Nikushina. The event lasted two hours, during which the actress addressed to her beloved compatriots, friends, the country, the theater. In response, the words of recognition, respect, respect of those who were in the hall, and those who live in other countries today, but love their city of Baku, admire the talent of an actress who personifies their youth and a happy past.

Actress, friend, patriot

There were many telegrams. They replaced one another and colleagues of Dina Tumarkina - actors Yuri Baliyev, Mabud Maharramov, Safa Mirzahasanov, Alexandra Nikushina, Fuad Osmanov, Rita Amirbayova, Yevgeniya Nevmerzhitskaya, Natalia Baliyeva, Elena Spitsina, greeting the actress, recalling the times of joint creativity, read out telegrams sent to the address from Russia, Germany, the United States. Canada, and Israel.

Mikhail Agarunov, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the International Association "AzIz": "... I know, I am sure that our spectators, just like all of us, your friends and admirers living in Israel, are happy to meet you today - a great actress, a beautiful woman and charming lady. I still keep the Baku newspaper of 1996, which reported on your meeting with the great Azerbaijani Heydar Aliyev in Baku at the presentation ceremony of a book about him published in Israel in Hebrew. You then delivered a big and touching speech, giving all our former inhabitants of Azerbaijan living in Israel, cordial greetings and kind wishes to our fellow countrymen. In his return speech, Heydar Aliyev made the following words about you and our theater: "We were all delighted to hear today the star of our theater, Dina Tumarkina. We have always been fans of her art. The Russian theater in Azerbaijan enjoyed and now enjoys great prestige. It has always had its spectators, a constant audience. And many went to this theater to enjoy both the wonderful art in general and the play of the beautiful actress Dina Tumarkina." I join these words and wish you more happiness!"

Irina Dubova, nominee for the Emmy-2017 Award, San Diego: "You played a big role in my life. Of course, you will remember a 13-year-old girl waiting for you after your performances with irrepressible perseverance to be just next to you, at least for 15 minutes, escorting you to the metro station. Your patient attitude and attention to me determined the fate of the future actress, Irina Dubova. Thank you for giving an opportunity to learn a lot from you!"

Viktoriya Dolinskaya, Israel: "Every speech of Dina Tumarkina on the waves of the radio station REKA raises enthusiastic responses from radio listeners. And time does not dominate this wonderful woman and actress."

Ilya Nemtsov, writer, journalist, Israel: "Dina Tumarkina not only fits into the active theatrical life of Israel, not only mastered the difficult language of her ancestors, but also played on the Israeli stage about 20 forever memorable roles. Her performances have never been factitious: her roles are pieces of life lived. It is no accident that Dina Tumarkina became a legend of both Azerbaijani and Israeli theaters. Such people as Dina Tumarkina are not only a bridge connecting cultures of different peoples, but they themselves fully embody the universal culture."

There are no former Bakunians

Dina Tumarkina ... The actress, an interesting person, a woman with a charming smile and voice, with amazing overtones, was also a woman-holiday that evening. She gave her charm and talent, reading poems, turning communication with the audience into a small play-confession, a performance-explanation and recognition: in love, memory, gratitude. Having performed seven plays in Hebrew in Israel and eight in Russian, she does not enjoy the theatrical stage currently. But none of the evenings held in Israel by AzIz can do without her participation. She is still in demand and loved by fans of her work, she continues to keep herself in professional form, proving with her own life that there are not only ex-Bakunians, but also actresses. If you really are an actress, it's a forever feeling. A life-long journey that is. It is a diagnosis. A fate. Tumarkina’s personality unites all these definitions. Therefore, at the end of the event, she shared a secret of inexhaustible creativity to her fans: "My dear! An actress is always eighteen! She wants to love and give you her art and her love! This is the secret of professional youth."
