Unlimited interests of artist Vugar Ali in a limited space

Author:

15.10.2019

Rhythms of colours is the title of Vugar Ali's personal exhibition at the Art Gallery of the Museum Centre. Vugar is an artist and a teacher.

As always, there are many spectators in the exhibition halls of the Art Gallery both on the opening day and after. The interest in this genre of art is huge in Azerbaijan. In addition, the personality of the artist - a well-known and respected person in professional circles, as well as his works - raise great interest. Coordinator of the exhibition and author of the exposition is Liana Vezirova.

High mission

Vugar Ali is a graduate of the Azim Azimzadeh Art School and the M.A. Aliyev State Institute of Arts (now Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts), a member of the Union of Artists of Azerbaijan. His creative interests are not limited to painting. Since the 1990s, he has been actively working in design, theatre and graphic arts. He was one of the creators of the Kainat creative group. He collaborated with the media as a cartoonist, created posters, many of which were awarded at various competitions. He worked as the chief artist of the State Youth Theatre, and has worked for eight years in the Museum Centre (MC) of Azerbaijan, in a permanent exhibition of which there are now a number of his works. While working at the MC, he developed the design of posters of such famous exhibition projects as the Baku Fusion International Biennale of Dolls (2011, 2013, 2015), Jazz Style Dolls (2010), Winter Time (2011), Sport Art (2012), Colours of Novruz (2012), and so on. He is the author of the most interesting posters and catalogues for the first doll art gallery in Azerbaijan.

This is not a complete list of Vugar's achievements. His creativity is the way of daily searches and experiments. Vugar Ali is a caring person who is easily ignited by an artistic idea and able to inflame others. Great quality for a teacher! This was also discussed at the opening of the exhibition organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Culture, Rector of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, Professor Jeyran Mahmudova, Secretary of the Union of Artists of Azerbaijan, People's Artist Aghali Ibrahimov, Doctor of Philosophy in Art Studies, Dilara Vahabova, etc.

The opening of the exhibition turned into a celebration celebrating the profession of an artist. And, however, talking about the ability to see the world with a deep penetrating gaze into the essence of things and events is a bit blasphemous. Because the mission of being in touch with the outside world 24 hours a day is no longer a profession, but something much higher and more complex.

Relation to music

Rhythms of Colours is not the artist’s first solo exhibition, which reflects his immersion in jazz. In 2016, his works depicted the names of the great jazzmen of the world. It was unusual and delightful, because the audience suddenly discovered that side of the musicians' creativity, which you least think about when listening to jazz. Vugar Ali's love of jazz music (as all of the Bakuvites!) is quite natural. The secret is seen in the coincidence of creative rhythms - the music that the artist loves so much, and his visual rhythms. The music of Vugar Ali himself in his visual rhythms. And he gets you convinced with his works.

The current exposition cover three areas thematically reflecting the author’s creative and artistic interest: music as the state of mind of the Artist.

Nargila is a myth and a reflection of reality, a series of works entitled The Grenade Fairy (Nargila). Crystallography is a technique as a way of seeing the modern world. This is the result of creative and experimental search of the artist, which is associated with a period of understanding the structure and nature of the mineral under the guidance of a renowned specialist in the field of mineralogy, academician Khudu Mammadov. What is a crystal in nature? And what is a crystal lattice? Questions that can be addressed to physicists and chemists. But what does painting have to do with this? If we look at this from a philosophical point of view, we can argue that the mineral is just an intermediate link between living and non-living nature. On the canvas, it is represented as a geometric alignment of the same faces, angles and edges of figures, their symmetrical repeatability. This is mesmerizing and, oddly enough, visual contact with the work gives a sense of three-dimensional space.

Nargila

This is a series of works, which praise the beauty, and femininity of the nature. Because both the girls and grenades on the paintings represent not only the tenderness and trepidation of the captured moment, but also become living and attractive characters. One wants to look at them for a long, long time. Watch and comprehend the nature of relationship at the moment when the artist’s brush immortalized them forever.

Rhythms of music

This is the largest section of the exhibition including the portraits of specific people who represent the artist’s generalization on the subject of his perception of music as a phenomenon that can transform both the performer and the world around him. At least for those moments while the violin sounds. Music and Man is a topic that captures the thoughts of an artist who, as a researcher, penetrates the depths of the thoughts and feelings of his heroes. It penetrates in order to understand the element of exciting creativity. An element that turns into a stream of harmonizing energy that can make the world a better, cleaner and kinder environment.

About artists

There are many talented and bright artists in Azerbaijan. They have something to tell both to the world and to themselves. Remaining extremely honest and truthful. Artist Vugar Ali created his own world. This is the world of a Man who seeks the Creator. A Man who seeks those energetic vibrations of living space that would allow him to remain a Man. The artist's works are abundant with light, a lot of positive feelings and thoughts. It seems that Vugar Ali knows how to be in harmony with himself and the world around him. Therefore, he has something to say to both the audience and his students. By the way, there were many of them throughout the exhibition.

Feelings: society, probably, is not quite aware of the level of importance of having wonderful Artists with a good heart and light in the soul. The country celebrates their professional and creative achievements, honouring them with titles and awards. And it would be great if the public, that is you and I, could reward them with titles such as “expressive brush”, “master of composition”, “virtuoso of the colour palette”, etc. Poets, composers and artists are special people who are gifted to be the drivers of the highest idea of the universe. Therefore, they deserve to have a special status.
