PEOPLE CAN BE IRREPLACEABLE

Anniversary of the death of outstanding Azerbaijani composer Elza Ibrahimova

Author:

01.02.2013

Requiem is sad music. When creating a dedication, the composer must be touched so deeply to put not only his thoughts and feelings about a departed person into the music, but also to carry a whole life through himself, recalling all of its own losses that have taken away a particle of his soul. There is a particle of soul in each composition, in every message to the people to make this world a better place. But there are never intentions, clear goals and rules when one creates something high. When creating music, the author follows his soul, fulfills a mission entrusted to him by God. These are great people with whom anyone feels great, anyone who values the unshakable. Perhaps this is what masterpieces are created for...

When Elza Ibrahimova learned about the great loss suffered by the world, the sudden death of great musician Michael Jackson, she wrote a requiem. It is like a pulse, an invisible thread that binds all musicians together like twins, as they can not conceive their lives without each other. It happens when you realize that something extraordinary is gone. He is no longer alive. The heart becomes empty and this emptiness can only be filled by music. It is a kind of tribute to everything that has been created by the deceased, by his unique talent. After all, after the demise of an outstanding personality there forms a niche which no-one can ever fill. And it is not true that no-one is irreplaceable. All great people, creative people, people masterpieces are irreplaceable.

Elza Ibrahimova's requiem was never presented to the public or performed by anyone when she was alive. It was one of her last works. "On 10 January she would have turned 75, while 11 February marks the anniversary of her death. It is impossible to calm down and overcome this loss. We tried to do everything not to overburden her musical gift with anything. We tried to relieve Elza from all domestic problems. We want her to create for the people, for future generations, because her immortal works have raised generations. And I think that if our TV and radio broadcast more of such music, the Azerbaijani youth will appreciate the beautiful, develop a taste by which one can distinguish good from bad. As it turns out, this is very important. Only high and immortal music enables us to enrich our intelligence", says her brother.

Cingiz Ibrahimov is an example of real brotherly love and a faithful companion for Elza Ibrahimova in her work. Today he is an inconsolable brother. And perhaps erecting the sculpture of a piano on the tomb of the great composer "so that she always has what was the most valuable thing in her life" is a small respite from the pain of loss. Elza is now with God and in the eternal memories of those who know her as a person that never aspired to fame, who grew up listening to her music and singing her songs. Her melodies have become easily recognizable, although many people did not know that their author is a small and frail woman with exceptional talent and strong character - Elza Ibrahimova. She could easily get lost in the everyday imperfections. But despite these imperfections from which her brother Chingiz tried to protect her, her music made its way like a germ through asphalt.

People's Artist of Azerbaijan and Dagestan, Honored Art Figure, Presidential Scholar Elza Ibrahimova ... Posthumously she was also awarded the Order "Mehriban Ana" [Caring Mother], which was presented to her family at the Union of Composers of Azerbaijan. During the ceremony, the composer was revered by many musicians who performed her songs. Elza Ibrahimova was also revered by outstanding young jazz pianist Isfar Sarabski, who performed with his own improvisation the requiem the composer had dedicated to Michael Jackson.

"When I first heard this piece in a brilliant performance of Isfar, a great Azerbaijani musician who, by the way, was very nervous knowing that it was a huge responsibility, the life of my sister who I remember from 11 years of age flashed before me. I remembered that she could be inspired by anything, the impression of an event, poetry, breeze through the window, nature. She could write music on a napkin if a motive suddenly came into her soul. Elza always played and wrote. She listened to the music within herself. The requiem is dedicated to Michael Jackson. I remember her writing it. I always remember Elza's face, it is always in front of me. I suddenly realized that she has dedicated this farewell song not only to the great musician, but also to herself."

Elza Ibrahimova passed away on 11 February 2012. On 10 January 2013, she would have been 75.
