The Second Baku International Humanitarian Forum, which was held in Baku on 4-5 October, continues to be the focus of attention for the world press and analysts. And all agree that such initiatives turn Azerbaijan into a centre of dialogue among civilizations. What does the holding of the event give the world and what is the significance of the discussions held in Baku? ICESCO Director General Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri believes that the Baku International Humanitarian Forum is "one of the most highly valued initiatives" put forward by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. "This important step is actually a great contribution to international efforts and aims to create a new and stronger structure in the world. In fact, it is based on such values adopted in a universal form as tolerance, dialogue, mutual approach between people and nations, and international law. In this case, we can provide a balanced and secure world for all," the ICESCO director general said, adding that a "road map" will be prepared for this purpose in the future.

Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri also shared his assessment of the Baku forum and vision for the future dialogue of civilizations with our magazine.

- You often visit Azerbaijan to participate in various international events. The current visit is connected with your participation in the second International Humanitarian Forum. What is its significance for the participating countries and Azerbaijan as the host country?

- Azerbaijan has always supported peace and stability and has made efforts to solve global problems. Today Azerbaijan is among the countries that play a major role in the fight against terrorism and extremism and in the dialogue of civilizations.

This forum is an integral part of global processes taking place in the world. It is at these events that answers are found to many issues troubling the world. Today we are going through a very turbulent period. Wars are going on. And in the Middle East, the situation is even tenser. After all, not only political conflicts, but also conflicts between civilizations have aggravated.

- Moreover, the events show that conflicts between civilizations are aggravating. Note what is happening on social networks after the spread of the film "Innocence of Muslims".

- Indeed, the Prophet Mohammed is presented in a very unfavourable light in the film. In fact, it is not a manifestation of freedom of expression or pluralism, because freedom of expression does not mean insulting the religious feelings of people. I think the Baku International Humanitarian Forum will also contribute to the solution of these problems.

- By the way, you took part in the first forum last year. Did it live up to your expectations?

- I would say that this forum was very productive. We discussed the conflict between civilizations and achieved significant results. Such events are necessary, because they bring together world leaders, representatives of the media, public and political figures to support humane ideas.

- ICESCO, like all other international organizations, recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and does not cease to repeat it. But it turns out that only recognition is not enough. That is these recognitions do not affect the real situation.

- As you know, ICESCO and personally I respect the position of Azerbaijan and support the territorial integrity of your country. We are always talking about it. The UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions, which reflect the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia. I believe that this issue should be resolved soon. This does not mean that we are against Armenia. We just want justice. As for the Baku forum, at all events, including at this one, this issue should be given more attention. In general, relations between neighbours should be restored.
