KHOJALY: MASS PROTESTS AND AS A CONSEQUENCE, AN INFORMATION BREAKTHROUGH

As a result of the Khojaly tragedy, 613 people, including 106 women and 70 old people, were killed, eight families were completely wiped out, 25 children lost both of their parents and 130 one of their parents, 487 people, including 76 children, were seriously wounded, 1,275 people were taken prisoner and 150 of them are still missing.

Eyewitnesses say that mutilated bodies were all over the place around Khojaly. Scalps were taken from a dozen of bodies, mainly old people, women and children. Faces were disfigured and parts of bodies were cut off. The site of the mass killing and the bodies of killed Khojaly residents were filmed several days later when Azerbaijani units carried out an operation to evacuate the bodies to Agdam by helicopters.

A forensic examination of 181 bodies (130 men and 51 women, including 13 children) was carried out in Agdam. The examination established that 151 people had died from bullet wounds, 20 people of splinter wounds and 10 had been killed with a sharp object.
