December 31 occupies a special place in the consciousness of Azerbaijanis around the world as a day of nationwide identity. A celebration that emerged spontaneously in the late 1980s from the people’s aspiration for unity has today evolved into a mature concept. In current realities, solidarity demands not only emotion, but also systematic approaches to strengthening ties between the historical homeland and the multi-million-strong diaspora.

Solidarity in action

Recent years have become a historic test for the Azerbaijani people. The restoration of the country’s territorial integrity demonstrated to the entire world that the Azerbaijani diaspora is not merely a collection of communities, but a united, mobile and highly organised rear.

During this decisive period, our compatriots abroad assumed a crucial mission—breaking through the information blockade. We witnessed representatives of the diaspora organising peaceful actions in the world’s largest capitals, conveying the truth to the international community, engaging with foreign media and countering disinformation. This form of "civic diplomacy" became a key factor in consolidating the state’s achievements on the international political stage. The experience of those days proved that when the goals of the diaspora and the state are aligned, the nation becomes invincible.

Challenges of a new era

Building on this invaluable experience of unity, it is now critically important to place interaction on a systematic footing, transforming emotional momentum into a long-term strategy. The foundation of this process is intellectual mobilisation. The modern diaspora possesses enormous human capital: scientists, doctors, engineers and senior executives of leading global corporations act as conduits of innovation. The creation of global platforms for the exchange of expertise makes it possible to integrate this potential into regional reconstruction projects, turning solidarity into a tangible creative resource.

The effectiveness of such interaction directly depends on the institutional strengthening of our communities abroad. The experience of recent years has clearly shown that the diaspora achieves maximum results under conditions of clear organisation. Transforming traditional associations into modern analytical and information hubs is the path to long-term influence in host countries. It is essential that the voice of our compatriots sounds professional, grounded in deep analysis and operating strictly within international legal frameworks.

Ultimately, the viability of this system is determined by continuity and the search for a contemporary cultural code. The solidarity of the future is inconceivable without the active involvement of young people in the nationwide agenda. Today, our shared task is to make cultural heritage accessible through the prism of new technologies. High-quality digital content, interactive educational platforms and international youth forums are designed to help new generations not only preserve the memory of their roots, but also become full-fledged architects of our nation’s shared future.

Unity as a project for the future

Solidarity is a process of continuous creation. Azerbaijan’s success gives compatriots around the world a source of pride and support, while the achievements of our fellow citizens abroad strengthen the authority of the state.

December 31 is the day when we synchronise our goals. Our strength lies in the ability to transform a sense of belonging to a single nation into concrete action. The future of solidarity lies in the transition from episodic interaction to sustained intellectual and technological partnership. It is precisely this unity that makes us a nation capable not only of preserving its history, but also of confidently shaping the global agenda of tomorrow.
