The "sleeping man" is a subject of research in hundreds of sleep centres in the US, Germany and Italy. It seems that there is no more troublesome business than sleep. It's true. Today, many are unhappy with their sleep. In adults the cause may be anxiety, depression, grief or illness, and in children - grievances against their parents. As a result, people lose not only precious hours of sleep and rest, but also comfort from their lives. Today, every third earthling suffers from insomnia. Doctors prescribe psychotherapy and antidepressants for such unfortunates.
Why do we lose sleep?
Many wonder: why do we need to leave the world on the other side of the blanket every day? The answer is simple: if you do not sleep for three days, you suffer mental disorders. Torture by sleep deprivation is worse than by starvation. By the end of the day the brain is like a warehouse which urgently needs tidying up. The benefit of a night's sleep is qualitative: during sleep the brain engages no fewer neurons than when it is awake. It sorts information and stores the useful bits. The Chinese say: sneeze all misfortunes out in your sleep. And this is true. If you sleep well under the right conditions, then a night's sleep solves the most important problems, because sleep allows you easy access to the subconscious and its archives and, in this event, dreams are one mechanism of psychological defence against the outside world. If you feel suicidal in the evening, by the morning you live again. But this requires an environment conducive to spending one third of your life usefully, so that you rise relaxed and without swollen eyes. Sleep is the only chance for our bodies to recover. Insomnia causes migraines, heart attacks, strokes and reduced immunity, we constantly feel tired, unhappy with ourselves and with everything around us. This fatigue, if repeated on a daily basis, leads to nervous disorders, depression and rapid aging of organisms.
But few people know that the causes of insufficient or restless sleep could also be adverse conditions in the bed into which we "dip" every night; it goes without saying that people can only relax in a comfortable bed. But in what kind of bed do we spend 6-8 hours every day of our lives? There are different types of bed: cotton, fur and feather, traditional wool mattresses and blankets. However, scientists have proved that they accumulate dust, dirt, various kinds of human waste and accompany our sleep with millions of dust mites whose excrement we breathe in all night. It's no secret that this is the cause of so many allergic reactions and respiratory diseases. There are also synthetic beds; sleeping in one is like lying in a plastic bag in which the body suffocates in its own secretions.
Wool is the thing!
According to Anna Mammadova, president of the Kampol company which delivers linen and domestic clothes made of natural wool to Azerbaijan, to solve the problem of restless sleep, we must consider the culture of sleep. And if we remember that sleep, essentially, begins with the bed, it is clear why many of us feel uncomfortable, lying on mattresses and covering ourselves with blankets from improperly processed wool and laying our heads on downy pillows.
"Many years ago, scientists developed the optimal bed from the most natural and useful material - natural wool. Modern studies of sleep hygiene show that only the wool shorn from live animals is capable of neutralizing the toxic substances released during sleep; it improves heat exchange, ensures a beneficial micro-climate and takes care of excessive moisture and hygiene. Wool is nature's most functional product. Modern technology allows us to make wool bedding unusually pleasant, beautiful and easy to care for," Mammadova stressed.
Let's sort it out!
Can sleep bring us refreshment, if we sleep in a downy or traditional bed? No, as it happens. During sleep, the muscles relax and the body requires more warm cover. One function of the skin is to regulate body heat, so it is very important that the bed in which we sleep is warm and does not hinder metabolism. Covers for blankets and feather pillows are made from thick cloth, so the bed we are accustomed to does not let air through. This leads to overheating of the body, and sweating. The body has to breathe in its own secretions, which affects our health adversely. Because of the low air permeability of a standard bed, the moisture lost during sleep (up to 300 ml) creates a hothouse environment conducive to the emergence of microbes invisible to the human eye in feather and downy pillows. Even a healthy person may have an allergic reaction, leading to the onset of asthma, if the permitted concentration of ticks in the atmosphere - 100 mites per gram of dust - is exceeded. Many will have seen what becomes of downy or feather pillows during prolonged use: they go rotten, and we try to ventilate and dry them in the sun.
According to Anna Mammadova, the modern bedding offered by Kampol is air-permeable and heat-insulating. It allows the skin to be enriched with oxygen and does not prevent the release of carbon dioxide. Currently, millions of Europeans use woollen bedding to treat various diseases, improve the vitality and efficiency of the body and its resistance to harmful environmental factors. But wool's most valuable constituent is lanolin. What is this? Wool fibres, being of skin composition, represent the horny cells of the outer layer. The sebaceous glands, located in the skin around hair roots, produce insoluble wool grease which lubricates hairs, protecting them from mechanical and atmospheric damage. Fat and sweat mix to form an animal wax - lanolin. This is a most valuable substance, being used as the basis of various ointments and creams. As the wool used to make Kampol products is not treated with chemicals or dyes, it retains its biological properties and healthy lanolin. Lanolin dissolves at a temperature of 35-37 degrees, it penetrates the skin easily and has a beneficial effect on the muscles, joints, spine and respiratory system and stimulates blood circulation. It is due to the improper maintenance of wool, which is often washed and dried in the sun, that traditional Azerbaijani bedding does not preserve its therapeutic properties. Here, the lanolin is washed away and dissolved by drying in the sun; subsequently it disappears completely.
Everything exists in nature!
Wool bedding is particularly necessary for people suffering from radiculitis, osteochondrosis, and rheumatism. Why? Radiculitis is a disease associated with the spine. In osteochondrosis, spinal discs lose their elasticity and cracks appear in them - this is a cause of illness and can even arise from a bad bed. People suffering from radiculitis should not sleep in a traditional bed. At night, the body temperature drops slightly, you try to warm up, wrap yourself in a blanket, but drop it after a while, because it becomes too hot. A wet body instantaneously becomes too cold, and in the morning we are no longer able to turn our necks or bend our bodies. This happens because the body, which needs dry heat, does not get this under a normal blanket impervious to air. Wool absorbs moisture, allows the body to breathe and neutralizes the harmful substances which the skin exudes with sweat. Wool absorbs moisture seven times faster than any other textile fibre, which allows the body to stay dry and warm. Current studies of sleeping hygiene confirm that wool shorn from living animals neutralizes poisonous substances. Wool products are also recommended for people suffering from diseases of the locomotive system, allergies, asthmatic (bronchial) diseases and blood circulation disorders. They help ease headaches and toothache.
"In autumn and spring, people are particularly vulnerable to viral infections. If you are sick, do not forget to include sheep's wool in your treatment. Very good results are obtained from its use in cases of pneumonia. Sheep's wool is irreplaceable in complications such as otitis, sinusitis and submandibular lymphadenitis. Dry wool helps to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. In these cases, it is useful to wrap joints in sheep's wool. And our company offers a wide range of high quality therapeutic and preventive products made from merino wool."
Today Kampol delivers blankets, pillows, clothing, rehabilitation facilities, winter and summer bedding from cashmere, camel, alpaca llama, Australian, Argentinean and European merinos to Azerbaijan from Europe. These products are unusually light and soft, due to the special method applied when shearing sheep. Elastic fibres are obtained via this method, making the fabric exceptionally silky. So enjoy a good sleep!
